The parish is square in form, bounded by Balmaclellan and Kells on the north; by Kirkpatrick-Durham on the east with the Urr as boundary; by Crossmichael on the south; and on the west, separated by the River Dee, by Balmaghie. Look out for the tiny shop on the corner of the row of houses buit for the Slate Quarry workers – it is a case of blink and you’ll miss it! The establishment is run by a Mr Sam Callander and his sister. Sam has thoroughly documented the life of James Clerk Maxwell and has a significant collection of material on the scientist. They also offer a range of old fashioned sweets, local and national newspapers and a selection of local information booklets. Well worth a look in! |
